Millions of People Engage with Video Training Workshops to Learn about Adobe Creative Suite 3 Products

Project Summary

Adobe Video Workshop is a video-tutorial application that teaches users product basics, new features, cross-product workflow, and tips and tricks to help them maximize work. It is a flexible application that is deployed on the Web as well as shipped as a DVD inside software boxes, available in multiple languages.

Client Challenge

Adobe Creative Suite 3 is one of the most important software suites released to the design and development community. It was critical to Adobe that the Video Workshop used to introduce the product to the public be as engaging and user friendly as the product itself. Video tutorials in the application were presented by product experts across the Adobe community, with the initial set produced by Lynda.com. The application also needed to be flexible enough to be available both on and off the Web, and easily deployed in seven languages.

Solution

EffectiveUI created the Video Workshop application using Adobe Flex. Utilizing XML for both runtime configuration as well as data loading, the software was easily deployed on both the Web and on DVD media. The project also far exceeded Adobe’s expectation around localization. Adobe was planning to have several global development teams build a translated version for each. Instead, EffectiveUI built a dynamically modifiable framework, allowing non-developers to simply localize the text files. This translated into a significant reduction in cost for Adobe.

Results

With Adobe’s 2007 release of Creative Suite 3, the Video Workshop DVD is shipped with hundreds of product SKU and available on Adobe.com. Over the first year of implementation, there were more than 5,000,000 tutorials played online at Adobe.com. Creative Suite 3 was Adobe’s largest software release ever, and the Adobe Video Workshop was part of this success.
